The Star Tribune reports that Al Shaver, the radio voice of the North Stars for its entire existence in Minnesota, has died at the age of 96. Shaver broadcast the Gophers for several seasons after the Stars moved to Texas.
The Iowa Hawkeyes announced that Ed Podolak will step back from his longtime role as color analyst but will continue to provide analysis for pregame shows and podcasts.
Longtime Nebraska radio station owner Larry Rice has died at the age of 86. Services are scheduled for April 27 in Ainsworth. Rice is a member of the Nebraska Broadcasters Hall of Fame, which notes that he worked in Missouri before owning KBRX (O’Neill) and KBRB AM-FM (Ainsworth).
As first noted by RadioInsight, Krista Hatcher is joining iHeartMedia’s Madison group for on-air work at “Z104” (WZEE) and “96.3 Star Country” (WMAD). She previously worked at Mid-West Family Broadcasting’s Madison group.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel profiled former longtime “V100” (WKKV) host Reggie Brown, noting that the iHeartMedia Hip-Hop/R&B station no longer has any live local hosts after Brown was let go.
WCCO-TV profiled “La Raza” (KMNV/1400 and K239CJ/95.7 St. Paul) and its service to the Spanish-speaking community of the Twin Cities.
WQOW-TV reported on the unique studio used by WCCN/WPKG (Neillsville): a pavilion from the 1964 World’s Fair.
Gray TV’s WMTV (Madison) has switched channel 15.6 from WeatherNation to The365.
