A Catholic radio network based in central Illinois has signed on a new FM signal in southern Wisconsin.
WTHX/89.3 (Whitewater) transmits with 2.7kW/40m (class A), delivering a rimshot signal to Fort Atkinson and potential fringe coverage stretching from Janesville to Milwaukee’s western suburbs. It’s owned by 2820 Communications, which operates the Catholic Spirit Radio network.
An FCC license to cover application filed Jan. 30 indicates the new station is operating under automatic program test authority, and the sign-on was mentioned during a network program.
WTHX was granted as a result of a 2021 filing window for new non-commercial FM stations.
Catholic Spirit Radio is heard on nine FM signals Illinois, including one just over the stateline in Harvard. Its weekday lineup consists mostly of programming from EWTN Radio. Numerous Illinois-based programs air on weekends.
There are no other Catholic radio stations in the Watertown area. Relevant Radio operates stations in the Madison and Milwaukee areas.
