Weekly Log: Joe Schmit Retires; Twins Games Coming to 11 TV Markets

Longtime sports anchor Joe Schmit has announced plans to retire from Hubbard ABC affiliate KSTP-TV/5.1 (St. Paul). Schmit will sign off April 30, a few months shy of his 40th anniversary with the station.

Sports reporter Mark Freund has departed Nexstar NBC affiliate WHO-DT/13.1 (Des Moines) for a job outside of TV news.

Suzi Collings announced her departure from Saga’s “Lazer 103.3” (KAZR Pella-Des Moines) after 22 years at the station.

Brian Noonan announced that he has been let go from Good Karma’s WTMJ/620 (Milwaukee).

Anchor/reporter Sloane Wick has departed Gray CBS affiliate WSAW/7.1 (Wausau) for a new job at a Gray station in Massachusetts.

The Minnesota Twins, FOX O&O KMSP/9 (Minneapolis), and Gray Media announced plans to bring ten Twins games to broadcast stations in 11 Upper Midwest markets this summer. All ten games in the package will be on Tuesday evenings, airing on KMSP and ten Gray stations: KDLH-CW/KBJR-NBC (Superior-Duluth), KEYC-FOX (Mankato), KDLT-FOX/KTTC-NBC/CW (Rochester), KCRG-ABC/CW (Cedar Rapids), KWQC-Cozi (Davenport), KYOU-FOX (Ottumwa), KXJB-CW/KVLY-MeTV (Fargo), KFYR-FOX (Bismarck), KEVN-FOX (Rapid City), and KDLT-FOX (Sioux Falls). Additionally, five Saturday evening Twins games will be broadcast nationally on FOX this summer.

Gray’s WBAY-TV (Green Bay) announced that its contract to carry Catchy Comedy expired at the end of March, and the network is now being seen on channel 31.7 of Weigel’s WMEI (Shawano-Green Bay). Catchy Comedy had aired on WBAY-DT6.
