Bustos Media Buys Competitor in Milwaukee

Posted on June 4, 2025June 3, 2025 by Jon Ellis

Bustos Media is buying “97.9 Radio Caliente” (W250BN Milwaukee), the only Spanish-language competitor to Bustos’ stations in the market.

According to an asset purchase agreement filed with the FCC on June 2, Bustos is buying W250BN from John Torres’ El Sol Broadcasting for $800,000. A news release states Torres will continue to work for the Bustos group as a market consultant and other “Caliente” staff will also join the Bustos group.

The FCC filing states that W250BN’s “Caliente” format will continue to originate on the HD3 signal of Audacy’s WMYX/99.1 (Milwaukee).

As previously reported here, El Sol Broadcasting sold the former WJTI/1460 and W273DQ/102.5 (Milwaukee) to The Family Radio Network last year.

The news release indicated that the “Caliente” format will continue, saying it complements Bustos’ existing formats in the market. “Caliente” serves younger audiences with a playlist mixing Pop, Contemporary, and Tropical artists.

Bustos also owns “La Gran D 104.7” (WDDW Sturtevant-Milwaukee) and W229CQ/93.7 (Milwaukee). W229CQ’s “La Z93.7” format originates on WDDW-HD2, while WDDW-HD3 carries “Urbana” and HD4 carries “La Ranchera.”

Bustos owns stations in ten other markets nationally and purchased WDDW in 2005.
