After 99 years on the air, the last of the original U.S. radio networks aired its last broadcast on Friday, May 22.
The final hourly CBS Radio News top-of-the-hour newscast at 11 p.m. Eastern time was devoted to what was arguably the biggest national news story at the moment: the end of that very broadcast. The entire four minutes was a tribute to the network’s history.
Here’s the final hourly newscast, as recorded from KDAL/610 (Duluth). (The mid-newscast commercial break has been removed.).
The actual final network broadcast was at 11:30 p.m. Eastern time. The news update that aired on KDAL was a standard news update with no mention of the network signing off.
(The last few seconds of the network broadcast was cut off by the station.)
