WCCO, K-FAN, WTMJ Air Classic Games Amid COVID-19 Shutdown

Posted on March 18, 2020 by Jon Ellis

With games cancelled from the pros down to preps due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some radio stations are turning to reruns to replace play-by-play sports.

With the start of Major League Baseball’s regular season delayed, Entercom’s WCCO/830 (Minneapolis) has scheduled classic broadcasts from 1965 on two Saturdays, March 21 and 28, at Noon. The March 21 broadcast will be the Twins playing in game one of the 1965 World Series, while the March 28 broadcast feature be the 1965 MLB All Star Game at Metropolitan Statdium.

Elsewhere, Good Karma Brands’ WTMJ/620 (Milwaukee) announced that it will air a repeat of last year’s opening day game on what would have been this year’s opening day, March 26.

There will be a @Brewers game on @620wtmj on Opening Day…last year’s Opening Day! We all could use something positive right now, we figured 6 HR’s and a game-winning Lorenzo Cain catch might do the trick. @JLevering4 @lanegrindle https://t.co/h4Fi4mvHzD

And the Minnesota Wild and iHeartMedia’s “K-FAN” (KFXN-FM/100.3 Minneapolis) announced that KFXN and some other stations on the Wild Radio Network will air classic Wild games every Wednesday night.

The broadcasts began March 18 at 8 p.m. with a rebroadcast of the Wild’s first-ever game on Oct. 11, 2000, against the Philadelphia Flyers. Future broadcasts will continue on Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m.
