New Ulm Station Switches from Classic Rock to Country

Subarctic Media has shuffled simulcast partners in south-central Minnesota, replacing Classic Rock with Classic Country on a New Ulm-area FM signal.

The former KHRS/105.9 (Winthrop-New Ulm) is now KRRW, simulcasting “North Star Country” with KEMJ/101.5 (St. James). KEMJ was formerly KRRW and has carried Country for decades, serving a region south of 105.9’s coverage area.

The format includes ABC News, the Linder Farm Network, and NASCAR. It streams at krrw.com and assumed 101.5’s previous Facebook page.

Subarctic Media is owned by the Linder and Ketelsen families.

Since 2008, the former KHRS had rebroadcast Classic Rock from KXLP/94.1 (Eagle Lake-Mankato), a format that had been heard on KXLP/93.1 (New Ulm-Mankato) from the 1980’s until 93.1 became Country-formatted “Minnesota 93” (KATO-FM) in 2007. 94.1’s main coverage area does not include New Ulm.

New Ulm is under the umbrella of the larger Mankato stations. It competes locally with Ingstad Brothers Broadcasting’s Full Service Classic Country outlet KNUJ/860 and K247CU/97.3 and Classic Hits-formatted “Sam 107.3” (KNUJ-FM Sleepy Eye-New Ulm)
