FCC Filings: Temporary Site for Twin Cities FM; 2 Neb. FM’s Silent; SD Storm Damage

The following stations have recently requested special temporary authority from the FCC for various reasons:

Twin Cities: Fresh Air Radio’s K294AM/106.7 (West St. Paul) has received approval for a temporary facility as work at its usual transmitter site, a water tower, continues longer than originally expected. The translator had gone silent last year due to the work, which is now expected to continue through the summer. K294AM normally uses 170 Watts and is instead using 90 Watts from a temporary structure near the water tower. K294AM relays KFAI/90.3 (Minneapolis).

Lincoln, NE: The Lincoln Chinese Ministry Association’s KJFT-LP/107.9 went off the air Feb. 1 after losing its tower lease. The station’s filing says it has been unable to find another location, and is seeking another group that would like to have the low-power FM license. KJFT had carried Footprint FM, a Chinese-language Christian network still heard in five other Midwestern communities.

Nebraska City, NE: My Bridge Radio’s K258BO/99.5 went silent at the end of May. The station’s filing says new managers at its tower site raised the lease fee, and it is more than the station can afford to pay. 6/11 update: The FCC has granted K258BO a move to 99.3 as K257GW from a site midway between Nebraska City and Plattsmouth.

Terry Peak, SD: Bad Lands Broadcasting’s KFMH/101.9 (Belle Fourche) and KXZT/107.9 (Newell) are operating at reduced power after a late May winter storm caused damage at the stations’ Terry Peak transmitter site. Each station’s filing says it has “had to reduce its power level to 480 in order to maintain service.” KFMH normally uses 100kW ERP and KXZT normally uses 4.8kW ERP. KFMH’s Classic Hits format is also heard on a booster in Rapid City, while KXZT simulcasts Classic Country with KRKI/99.5 (Keystone-Rapid City).
