End of “Takeaway” Means Changes to MPR, WPR Schedules

Posted on May 25, 2023 by Jon Ellis

Public radio services are adjusting their schedules due to the impending end of “The Takeaway,” an hourlong weekday news magazine from WNYC.

Wisconsin Public Radio’s Ideas Network has announced that it will replace “Takeaway” with “The World” in the 2 p.m. hour Monday through Thursday starting June 5. The hourlong news magazine, which is produced by PRX and WGBH, has been on the air since 1996 but is currently not heard in most of Wisconsin.

Meanwhile, Minnesota Public Radio News has already replaced “Takeaway” with “On Point” in the 1 p.m. hour Monday through Thursday. MPR also continues to air “On Point” at 9 p.m. (and “The World” at 7 p.m.)

Both networks carry “Science Friday” at 1 p.m. that day, running for one hour on MPR News and two hours on the Ideas Network.
