One of several Sports stations in Duluth has switched to a Christian network, bringing a second Christian music option back to the Twin Ports.
Oregon-based “Worship 24/7” is now heard on Twin Ports Radio LLC’s KJOQ/1490 and W265DO/100.9 (Duluth) after a flip on March 7. The station is carrying the network on a shared revenue model, according to a news release.
W265DO is currently operating at low power due to a transmitter issue but is working to get back up to its full power of 250 Watts.
Worship 24/7 is programmed by Scott Michaels, the former station manager of the University of Northwestern-St. Paul’s “Life 97-3” (KDNW Duluth). Michaels will be hosting the 5 to 8 a.m. shift on KJOQ.
“Adding this signal is yet another opportunity to fulfill our mission to ignite a passion for God through worship,” said David Harms, President of 247 Media Ministries, in a news release. “We were able to get very creative with Dan Hatfield of Twin Ports Radio to bring Worship 24/7 to Duluth and the surrounding communities. It’s clearly a win/win for everyone.”
Worship 24/7 launched in central Oregon in 2019 and added a station in the Tacoma, Washington area last year.
KJOQ is the first station to air Worship 24/7 on a shared revenue model. The network says the model is a solution for stations with limited revenue.
Hatfield was previously involved in Christian music network “The Refuge,” which was donated to UNWSP in 2019. Former “Refuge” flagship WJRF/89.5 (Duluth) has been simulcasting KDNW for more than a year except for a period over Christmas when the two stations aired separate playlists.
KJOQ had most recently carried SportsMap Radio. It had originally flipped to Sports as part of the Red Rock Radio group in 2009 with programming from the Fan Network, which later moved to another station; the four former Duluth Red Rock stations are now owned by four separate owners.
