East Metro’s KLBB Returns to Air at Low Power

Posted on March 26, 2019 by Jon Ellis

East metro station KLBB/1220 (Stillwater) has returned to the air with a temporary facility a week before a statutory deadline to resume broadcasting.

The station had gone silent at the end of March 2018 due to the demolition of its longtime transmitter site, where it had used 5kW day and 254W night, nondirectional.

Now, a request for special temporary authority filed with the FCC indicates KLBB is transmitting with 20 Watts from a longwire antenna located on the roof of its downtown Stillwater studio. (An initial filing stating that the power was 60 Watts was replaced with a filing indicating 20 Watts as the power.)

The filing indicates that KLBB continues to work on finding a permanent transmitter site.

Listeners report the station is carrying NOAA Weather Radio rather than its previous Soft Oldies format.

KLBB is owned by Dan Smith’s Endurance Broadcasting and also has a construction permit for an FM translator on 107.5.
