Northeastern Wisconsin Radio Group Sold to Sales Manager

Posted on September 16, 2019 by Jon Ellis

The sales manager of a northeastern Wisconsin group of five radio stations is buying the group as its longtime owner retires.

Roger Utnehmer announced his retirement plans over the weekend on Facebook, saying that Bryan Mazur is buying his Nicolet Broadcasting stations. They are WBDK/96.7 (Algoma- Sturgeon Bay), WRKU/102.1 (Forestville-Sturgeon Bay), W277BP/103.3 (Sturgeon Bay), WRLU/104.1 (Algoma-Sturgeon Bay), and WSBW/105.1 (Ephraim).

The sale price is $1.5 million, according to an asset purchase agreement filed Thursday, Sept. 19, with the FCC.

WBDK carries Soft Oldies, WRKU runs Variety Hits, WRLU is a Country outlet, and WSBW and W277BP both carry Classic Country. W277BP is fed by WBDK-HD2.

Door County is a popular tourist area with a crowded radio dial. The Nicolet group competes with an AM-FM combo and three standalone FM’s, in addition to rimshot signals from the Green Bay and Marinette-Menominee markets.
