Duluth FM Station Returns to the Air

Posted on September 26, 2019 by Jon Ellis

After several weeks of silence, WJRF/89.5 (Duluth) has returned to the air simulcasting another station.

WJRF is now relaying the Contemporary Christian format of new sister station “Life 97.3” (KDNW Duluth). WJRF’s previous “Refuge” Christian Hits format ended over Labor Day weekend after KDNW owner University of Northwestern-St. Paul received the “Refuge” stations as a donation.

WJRF’s coverage area is completely embedded within KDNW’s, so a long-term simulcast is not likely.

Duluth is the only city where Northwestern owns three-full power FM stations. (The third is KDNI/90.5, which carries the “Faith Radio” network.)
