Variety Hits Format Back in Madison

Posted on November 21, 2019 by Jon Ellis

iHeartMedia’s WXXM/92.1 (Sun Prairie-Madison) has transitioned from Classic Hits to Variety Hits but kept its “Rewind 92.1” moniker.

It appears the transition from “Madison’s Greatest Hits” to “We Play Anything” happened on Nov. 18, based on Facebook activity. The change was first reported by RadioInsight, which notes that the station is now operating without DJ’s.

“Rewind” had launched as a Classic Hits outlet in November 2016 but failed to surpass the market’s heritage Classic Hits station, Entercom’s WOLX/94.9 (Baraboo-Madison), in publicly-available ratings.

The Variety Hits format was previously heard in the Madison market on Entercom’s “Charlie FM” from 2005 to 2012. That station is now Hot Adult Contemporary as “Mix 105.1” (WMHX Waunakee-Madison).
