COVID-19 Delays North Metro Station’s Return to Air

Posted on March 26, 2020 by Jon Ellis

The owner of a northern Twin Cities metro area radio station says the COVID-19 pandemic is delaying the station’s return to the air.

Santamaria Broadcasting’s KMNQ/1470 (Brooklyn Park) filed a request with the FCC for special temporary authority to remain silent after taking the station off the air for equipment updates on March 16.

The filing says Santamaria is facing additional delays due to the coronavirus “and considers the safety of its employees to be paramount.”

The company says it expects KMNQ to be silent for a few months at most.

KMNQ simulcasts “La Raza” with KMNV/1400 (St. Paul) and translator K239CJ/95.7 (St. Paul). KMNQ’s highly-directional 5kW signal is strong across the north metro.
