New 9 p.m. Newscasts for Green Bay, Duluth

Posted on June 22, 2020 by Jon Ellis

Viewers in Green Bay and Duluth are getting second options for 9 p.m. newscasts.

In northeastern Wisconsin, Scripps’ My New 32 (WACY-TV Appleton) began airing a half-hour newscast produced by sister station NBC 26 (WGBA Green Bay) on June 15. “My News at 9” competes with the longtime 9:00 newscast on Sinclair’s FOX 11 (WLUK Green Bay).

It appears to be the first time that anyone has taken on WLUK in the timeslot.

In Duluth, Hubbard ABC affiliate WDIO is promoting the June 29 launch of a half-hour 9 p.m. newscast on its MeTV subchannel. Though uncommon, several MeTV affiliates do carry news at that hour, including KCCI-DT2 (Des Moines).

WDIO’s new newscast will compete with FOX 21 (KQDS-TV Duluth) in the timeslot. NBC affiliate KBJR also made five previous attempts at 9 p.m. newscasts on four different affiliations in the market under previous ownership.
