Wisconsin Public Radio is shifting its lineups on Aug. 31 in response to changes in production for several national programs, affecting a total of 31 hours of programming per week across WPR’s two networks.
The biggest change is that WBUR’s “On Point” and WAMU’s “1A” will swap timeslots on WPR’s Ideas Network. With “On Point” being reduced nationally to one hour, “1A” will move into the 9-11 a.m. timeslot, allowing it to air live. “On Point” will replace “1A” at 1 p.m.
PRX’s “The Takeaway” will be added at 2 p.m. The news magazine is new to WPR’s lineup. “Science Friday” will continue to air Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m.
The Ideas Network will also reduce its “Central Time” to three hours, its original length, and air the hour-long “1A Plus” at 6 p.m.
On weekends, changes are being made in response to the national cancellation of American Public Media’s “Live from Here” and WBUR’s “Only A Game.”
Both of WPR’s networks have simulcast “Live from Here” and its predecessor, “A Prairie Home Companion,” in the 5-7 p.m. Saturday timeslot for decades. Beginning Sept. 5, the Ideas Network will air “Snap Judgement” and the “Moth Radio Hour” in the Saturday timeslot in addition to their existing Friday night spots. On the NPR News and Classical Music network, Dr. Jonathan Overby’s “On the Road to Higher Ground” will move its start up to 5 p.m. and overnight Jazz Network programming will begin two hours earlier at 9 p.m.
On Sunday morning, “It’s Been a Minute” will move an hour later to replace “Only A Game” at 7 a.m. on the Ideas Network, and “On Being” will be added at 6 a.m. Later,
Complete schedules are posted as part of WPR’s announcement.
