Eagle Buys Competitor in North Platte (Updated)

Posted on August 31, 2020 by Jon Ellis

Eagle Communications is buying a competing pair of stations in North Platte, bringing the small city back down to two radio groups.

Eagle announced Aug. 31 that it is buying “Country 93.5” KZTL (Paxton) and “Rock 100.7” (KRNP Sutherland) from Legacy Communications to add to its existing three stations. Documents later filed with the FCC reveal the purchase price to be $800,000.

Eagle began operating the stations on Sept. 1 through a local marketing agreement.

Eagle’s existing stations in North Platte are Adult Contemporary outlet “Mix 97-1” (KELN), “Q Country 107.3” (KNPQ Hershey), and Classic Hits pair K251CP/98.1 and KOOQ/1410. “Q Country” focuses on New Country while “Country 93.5” plays the 90s and 2000s.

Eagle’s announcement said all current employees of KZTL/KRNP will become Eagle employees.

Up until 2018, KZTL and KRNP had been operated by Armada Media, which has three other North Platte stations.
