Christian radio network “The Family” is expanding westward to Eau Claire, displacing a short-lived Alternative format originating on the UW-Eau Claire campus.
Blugold Radio, LLC is selling WDRK/99.9 (Cornell-Eau Claire) to The Family Radio Network for $280,300, according to a document filed with the FCC. The UW-Eau Claire Foundation is the sole voting member of Blugold Radio.
Blugold had received WDRK as a donation from Mid-West Management in 2016. It has operated as “Converge Radio” with a mix of local artists and national independent artists.
The station just named a new manager in July. Several days after the sale was filed with the FCC, the station announced that it plans to continue as an online stream and was seeking other possible broadcast homes:
“The Family” carries a mix of Christian teaching and preaching and Contemporary Christian music on four full-power stations serving Green Bay, Appleton, Sheboygan, and Wausau. The network also has six translators.
The new format will primarily compete with Stewards of Sound’s longtime Christian outlet WWIB/103.7 (Hallie-Eau Claire), which has its own network of translators around the region.
