Minnesota Public Radio’s News network made a rather large overhaul of its weekend lineup coinciding with the recent end of “Live from Here.”
The two-hour variety program, which was produced by MPR parent American Public Media Group, had aired twice on the weekend. MPR also had an extra hour to fill due to the national cancellation of WBUR’s “Only A Game.”
The amount of entertainment programming on MPR’s schedule has been reduced in favor of more news. “Weekend Edition” received an extra hour on both Saturdays and Sundays, now airing from 7 to 11 a.m. (The national program is two hours long and repeats.)
The BBC World Service also now has more airtime on MPR, with “BBC Newshour” added Saturdays at 3 p.m. and the network now going to overnight BBC programming at 10 instead of 11 on weekends.
MPR also added “Freakonomics Radio” and dropped “Ask Me Another.”
The changes started on Saturday, Sept. 19. Special NPR coverage about the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg pre-empted some programming that day, leading to some complaints from confused listeners on social media.
