The following are updates to stories previously reported here and smaller recent FCC filings and actions that do not merit a full story of their own at this time:
Minnesota
The FCC has formally approved the sale of KZGO/95.3 (St. Paul-Minneapolis) and KQGO/96.3 (Edina-Minneapolis) to the Educational Media Foundation, which plans to operate them non-commercially. The sale has not yet closed.
The FCC also approved the transfer of KSNR/100.3 (Fisher, MN-Grand Forks, ND) from a trust back to iHeartMedia after an AM station’s community of license change raised the ownership cap in the market.
D&K Distributors’ KXDL/99.7 (Browerville) is operating at reduced power of 1.224kW ERP after its transmitter suffered a major failure. The station normally broadcasts with 6kW.
Townsquare Media’s KOLM/1520 (Rochester) continues to operate with its 800-Watt nighttime directional pattern 24 hours per day, rather than switching to its licensed daytime facility of 10kW non-directional. The station says in a request for extension of special temporary authority that after it fixed the initial problem with a control cable, it encountered more issues. The filing says winter weather has prevented the engineer from locating the source of issues with underground cabling to the tower bases.
Nebraska
Armada Media’s KXNP/103.5 (North Platte) is operating at about 10% of its usual 100kW due to the failure of its main transmitter. The station tells the FCC a new transmitter has been ordered.
North Dakota
The FCC dismissed a request from analog low-power TV station KCPM-LP/2 (Fargo) for an extension to special temporary authority to remain silent. The reason for the decision is not listed in the FCC database.
South Dakota
Seventh Generation Media Services filed for license renewal of KLND/89.5 (Little Eagle) after it was listed on an FCC public notice saying that its license would expire April 1 if a renewal application wasn’t filed. The application said that a previous manager departed without leaving information on passwords and policies.
Analog low-power TV station KKRA-LP/24 (Rapid City) reported that it returned to the air March 22. As previously noted, KKRA-LP has received a construction permit for a digital companion facility on channel 25.
Wisconsin
David Magnum and Magnum Communications applied for new permits to replace expired construction permits to upgrade four FM translators: W290AL/105.9 (Baraboo), W276CO/103.1 (Fond du Lac), W258CM/98.5 (Madison), and W241BQ/96.1 (Watertown). The translators are all seeking power increases to 250 Watts.
