PBS Wisconsin Available in Superior for First Time

Posted on April 11, 2021 by Jon Ellis

DISH Network has added PBS Wisconsin to its lineup in Superior, representing the first time the state network has been available to residents of the northwestern Wisconsin city.

The network, labelled as WHA, showed up on DISH Network channel 60 in Superior several weeks ago. It’s only available in standard definition.

The geographic extent of the carriage is not known; DISH Network does not acknowledge the channel in its online listings. PBS Wisconsin has not mentioned the addition in its online platforms and did not respond to an email request for more information.

PBS Wisconsin has six full-power stations in four Wisconsin markets but has lacked satellite carriage in the 23 counties that are in the Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Duluth-Superior, and Marquette markets. Many cable systems in those markets have historically carried the network, but it was dropped from Milwaukee’s cable lineup a decade ago and has never been carried on Superior’s cable system.

PBS Wisconsin and its DT2 Wisconsin Channel are also available for online streaming statewide.

Most PBS Wisconsin programs are carried on Duluth PBS station WDSE/8 at alternate times. WDSE is also available in northwestern Wisconsin on cable and satellite providers.

PBS Wisconsin is one of three out-of-market PBS stations imported into parts of the 12-county Duluth-Superior market. Bemidji-based Lakeland PBS (KAWE) is seen over the air and on cable in Itasca and Koochiching counties, while Marquette-based WNMU is seen on cable in Gogebic County. PBS Wisconsin is seen on cable in Gogebic County and most of northwestern Wisconsin outside of Superior and can be received over the air in parts of the market from WLEF/36.1 (Park Falls), which is in the Wausau market.
