Competition is heating up in the 9 a.m. hour on the Twin Cities TV dial as Hubbard ABC affiliate KSTP-TV/5 launches a new local show and FOX-owned KMSP/9 revamps its existing program in the hour.
KSTP debuted “Minnesota Live” in the 9 a.m. timeslot on Tuesday, Sept. 7, replacing the syndicated “Live with Kelly and Ryan.” The launch of “Minnesota Live” came after a week of special broadcasts from the Minnesota State Fair in the hour.
“Minnesota Live” is hosted by KSTP news anchors Megan Newquist and Chris Egert and is described as a “lifestyle show highlighting what makes Minnesota an incredible place to live.” The show features occasional reports from Hubbard sister stations WDIO (Duluth) and KAAL (Austin-Rochester).
KSTP also produces another local lifestyle show, “Twin Cities Live,” that runs from 3 to 4:30 p.m. KSTP and Independent sister station “45TV” (KSTC-TV) now put out a combined 12.5 hours of original local news and lifestyle programming.
Meanwhile, on the same day “Minnesota Live” debuted, KMSP relaunched its 9 a.m. hour as “FOX 9 Good Day.” It was previously the “FOX 9 Morning Buzz.”

“FOX 9 Good Day” is part of a 7.5 hour marathon of local programming that also includes “FOX 9 Morning News,” “The Jason Show,” and “FOX 9 News at 11.” FOX 9 airs a total of 11 hours a day of local programming, with another hour on sister station FOX 9+ (WFTC).
The new shows on KSTP and KMSP compete with “WCCO Mid-Morning” on the CBS owned-and-operated affiliate. Tegna NBC affiliate KARE/11 runs the third hour of “Today” in the 9 a.m. hour.
The website for “Live with Kelly and Ryan” is now listing KARE as its Minneapolis affiliate, listing 11 a.m. as the time it will air. “The Rachael Ray Show” currently airs in that hour.
