Weigel Broadcasting’s “CBS58” (WDJT Milwaukee) is adding weekend morning newscasts beginning Sept. 18.
The “CBS58 Weekend Morning News” will air from 6 to 7 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday, leading into “CBS Saturday Morning” and “CBS58 Sunday Morning.” The station says the newscast will be anchored by Melissa Zygowicz and meteorologist Michael Schlesinger.
In the 6 a.m. weekend timeslot, WDJT’s only local competition is “TMJ News4 Today” on Scripps NBC affiliate WTMJ-TV.
Hearst ABC affiliate WISN-TV airs local news at 5 a.m. and then goes to “Good Morning America” in the 6 a.m. hour, resuming local news at 7, while FOX-owned WITI begins its local weekend morning news at 7.
Currently, the only other weekend newscast on “CBS58” is an hour-long block at 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. With network football coverage on its main channel, WDJT’s 5 p.m. Saturday and 5:30 p.m. Sunday newscasts air on its Independent station, “The M” (WMLW), and “The M” also airs an hour of news at 9 p.m. nightly.
