You could call it a homecoming of sorts for the Nebraska Rural Radio Association’s KOLT/690 (Terrytown-Scottsbluff).
The station has filed an application with the FCC to move its transmitter to the site just west of Scottsbluff used by the original KOLT/1320, which left the air permanently two years ago.
Fittingly enough, the road near the site is actually called Kolt Lane. FCC records indicate the original KOLT used the site from 1938 until 2019.
KOLT/690 currently transmits from a two-tower directional array in Terrytown with 1kW day and 65 Watts night. The application calls for KOLT to move to the Kolt Lane site and transmit with a non-directional antenna using 1.1kW day and 74 Watts night.
KOLT’s News/Talk/Sports format is rebroadcast on K269DO/101.7 (Scottsbluff). It’s one of six stations the NRRA owns in the Scottsbluff market.
The former KOLT studio building, which is on a separate plot of land adjacent to the tower site, sold for $110,000 in August, according to Scottsbluff County records.
