Northeastern Wisconsin AM Station Changes Frequency

Posted on October 20, 2021 by Jon Ellis

A northeastern Wisconsin AM radio station has changed frequency and upgraded after a southeastern Wisconsin station downgraded.

WLAK/1530 (New Holstein) is now broadcasting on 1520. It also received an upgrade to its daytime power from 350 to 550 Watts, but remains daytime-only.

The frequency change eliminates interference from WCKY/1530 (Cincinnati) after sunrise and before sunset, and the power increase improves WLAK’s signal strength to Appleton and Oskosh.

The station, owned by Mark Heller’s Metro North Communications, carries an Oldies format. It’s relayed on W230DA/93.9 (New Holstein).

WLAK had broadcast on 1530 since its signed on in 1984 and was originally licensed to Chilton.

As previously reported, WLAK was able to upgrade after WGKB/1510 (Waukesha) downgraded from 23kW to 250W.
