Flood Buys Majority Interest in Kearney/Hastings Radio Group

Posted on November 2, 2021 by Jon Ellis

Companies related to Flood Communications are buying majority interest in a radio group in Nebraska’s Tri-Cities in a deal that keeps the current owner as a minority shareholder in most of the stations.

According to documents filed with the FCC, Flood Communications of Omaha LLC is buying Adult Contemporary station KLIQ/94.5 (Hastings) from Platte River Radio for $539,620.

In a separate transaction, the other four Platte River Radio stations, as well as three FM translators, will be transferred to Flood Communications Tri‐Cities, LLC. The buyer is owned by Flood Communications West, LLC (30%), Flood Communications Beatrice, LLC (25%), and Platte River Radio (45%). Platte River Radio will receive $1,079,240.

The Flood Communications Tri‐Cities, LLC transaction includes:

  • Classic Hits station KKPR-FM/98.9 (Kearney)
  • Full Service KHAS/1230 (Hastings) and translator K281CW/104.1 (Hastings)
  • “ESPN Tri Cities” station KXPN/1460 (Kearney) and translator K221GM/92.1 (Kearney)
  • “ESPN Tri Cities” station KICS/1550 (Hastings) and translator K224FK/92.7 (Hastings)

Flood Communications Beatrice is also transferring low-power TV station KMLF-LD (Grand Island) to Flood Communications Tri-Cities.

The new owners began operating the stations through local marketing agreements on Nov. 1.

Michael J. Flood, Flood Broadcasting, Flood Communications, Flood Communications West, Flood Communications Beatrice, Flood Communications of Omaha, and Red Beacon Communications own ten other full-power radio stations, four FM translators, and eight low-power TV stations across Nebraska. The LPTV stations carry Flood’s “News Channel Nebraska” network and Telemundo.
