Former radio host and North Dakota Secretary of State Jim Kusler has died at the age of 73.
Kusler had co-hosted “Friday Night Live” on KDKT/1410 (Beulah) for 13 years until retiring due to a health issue in 2018.
According to his obituary, Kusler had also worked in research for Meyer Broadcasting in the 1970s and was later elected to the state Senate in 1983 and then Secretary of State, an office which he held from 1989 to 1993. The Bismarck Tribune reports Kusler was the only Democrat ever elected to that office.
He also worked as a farmer and manager of organic food companies.
Kusler died Nov. 7 of chronic heart failure. Services are scheduled for Nov. 11 in Beulah.
