Sale Keeps Full-Service Nebraska AM Station Under Local Ownership

Posted on March 22, 2022 by Jon Ellis

The longtime majority owner of KVSH/940 (Valentine) is selling shares to a longtime employee of the station.

A stock purchase agreement filed with the FCC says Kimberly and Michael Burge will buy the shares in Heart City Radio currently held by Deborah and Dave “Dent” Otradovsky for a nominal consideration of $1, with $374,625 to be paid in full at closing.

Currently, the Otradovskys own 81% of the company and the Burges own the other 19%. Both couples live in Valentine.

KVSH’s website says Dave Otradovsky started working at the station in 1969 and bought it in 1990. Mike Burge has worked at the station full-time since 1982.

Dave Otradovsky is also a Valentine City Council member and is seeking re-election this year, according to an article on KVSH’s website. He was inducted into the Nebraska Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame in 2018.

KVSH broadcasts with 5kW day and 19 Watts at night, carrying a Full Service Country and Classic Rock format with live and local announcers. It is Nebraska’s only standalone AM station without an FM translator.

The only other commercial station in the area is DJ Broadcasting’s KDJL/99.5 (Kilgore).
