WBA Hall of Fame adds Bernier, Garbaciak, Gloede, and Purcell

Posted on March 29, 2022 by Jon Ellis

Chris Bernier, Joyce Garbaciak, Howard Gloede, and Gene Purcell will be added to the Wisconsin Broadcasters Hall of Fame during the WBA’s summer conference.

  • Bernier started in radio at 19 and was a part-owner by 22. That led to an ownership interest in 35 stations in five states.
  • Garbaciak is the evening co-anchor at Milwaukee ABC affiliate WISN-TV/12. She’s anchored news in Milwaukee since 1988 and worked in Wausau before then.
  • Gloede established a reputation as a sales leader at Mid-West Family Radio in La Crosse and rose to become the group’s president and general manager.
  • Purcell was Director of Wisconsin Public Media after working his way up through different levels of management, starting at WLSU (La Crosse) in news and programming roles.

Additional biographical details are available in the WBA’s announcement.

The Wisconsin Broadcasters Hall of Fame is located at the Hilton Milwaukee Civic Center and can be viewed online at www.wisconsinbroadcastingmuseum.org.

The WBA also announced that radio hosts Jonathan Green (WTMJ Milwaukee), Mike Hayes (WIZM La Crosse), Terry West (WIAL/WAXX Eau Claire), and TV anchor Tom Zalaski (WFRV Green Bay) will be honored as Local Broadcast Legends.

The WBA Summer Conference will be held June 22-23 at the La Crosse Radisson.
