Pardon the analogy, but the last week or so has felt a little like attending my own funeral, except I have the fortune of still being alive!
After a great sendoff from my friends at WDIO, many former colleagues now living in other places have sent their wishes in response to my column last week explaining how I came to my decision to leave my longtime job. It truly is heartening to know that I may have helped even one person in their career.
Since I posted that column, many of you have reached out with support and encouragement about my future. Thank you so much for your kind words.
I truly appreciate the many longtime readers here on NorthPine. I keep this website running because I’m interested in the topic. If others are interested, that’s great! If not, I’d probably still be writing it.
As you may have noticed, I’ve been writing additional content with new features each day of the week. This site has previously been operated mostly as a “news of the day” platform, reporting on new developments. It’s my hope that creating new weekly features will provide a reason to post other content.
You’ll find my insights on the news business on Tuesdays, responses to reader questions on Wednesdays, random data on Thursdays, historical features on Saturdays, and these “off topic” columns on Sundays. The week will be sandwiched with the existing FCC Monitor on Mondays and a new weekly log on Fridays that recounts items reported elsewhere and a few items that haven’t yet been covered. I’m sure these plans will change over time.
You probably also noticed that the homebrew NorthPine logo has been updated with a new homebrew logo that is more adaptable to social media feeds. I’m no graphic artist but I think it’ll work!
Do you have ideas for these features, other topics that I should be covering here, or a news tip? Please drop a line to [email protected]!
I want to be clear, though, my decision to leave my full-time job does not necessarily mean that I’m leaving the news business or broadcasting. I honestly don’t know what my next step will be.
For now, I am taking a break to catch up on life!
