An FCC filing indicates new Wisconsin radio company Civic Media is buying stations in Berlin, Oshkosh, and Wisconsin Rapids.
The application for assignment of authorization filed July 27 shows Civic Media is buying WISS/1100 (Berlin) and W252DR/98.3 (Oshkosh) from Hometown Broadcasting for $700,000.
WISS currently simulcasts a Classic Hits format with WAUH/102.3 (Wautoma), which Hometown is retaining along with stations in Ripon. The asset purchase agreement stipulates that the deal does not include WISS’ current studio in Ripon.
Civic Media is also poised to submit a filing to buy WFHR/1320 (Wisconsin Rapids), according to the disclosure of other broadcast interests in the WISS filing, but the WFHR filing was not available as of Thursday evening. WFHR is currently owned by Heart of Wisconsin Media.
The purchases come weeks after Civic Media reached deals to buy stations in Wausau and Richland Center. It will begin operating the Wausau stations on Aug. 1.
Civic Media’s website says its stations will offer local news and regional commentary. The company is 90% owned by Sage Weil, while Michael Crute has 10% interest; Crute hosts the syndicated “Devil’s Advocates Radio” Liberal Talk show.
