Oct. 16 will be one of those Sundays that’s hated by many regional football fans and TV stations alike: It’s the first week this season when the Vikings and Packers are playing different games at the same time on FOX, preventing some viewers from seeing their home-state team. The conflict affects Packers fans in a dozen northwestern Wisconsin counties and Vikings fans in two southeastern Minnesota counties, since they receive TV signals from over the state line. The NFL and the networks have not dealt with the issue despite decades of complaints, repeated efforts by members of Congress, and a proliferation of subchannels that could easily carry a second game. The schedule at 506sports indicates future conflicts are expected on Nov. 6 and Jan. 8.
