Absolute Communications’ Radio Works group in Worthington has started the new year with a new Classic Hits format.
KITN/93.5 (Worthington) has switched from Classic Rocker “Rock-It FM” to “Rewind FM,” with a playlist ranging from the 1970s to the early 2000s.
The “Rock-It” format had been on the air since 2012, which is the same year the city lost its previous Classic Hits format amid a series of changes.
VP/GM Chad Cummings, who created the “Rock-It” format focusing on Rock and Metal from 1980 to 1995, wrote in a post on the old format’s Facebook page that the decision to make the change was a business move based on an aging audience. He added in a reply that more than half of the old format is still in play.
The Radio Works group’s other formats include Country, Contemporary Christian, and Sports/Farm.
As a Classic Hits outlet, KITN’s main competitor is Christensen Broadcasting’s KISD/98.7 (Pipestone), which has a strong signal to Worthington.
