A community in Nebraska’s panhandle has gotten its radio voice back with the launch of KIMB/104.3 (Dix-Kimball).
Flood Communications West formally launched the station on Feb. 1 after a week of stunting with a loop of Dire Straits hit “Money For Nothing,” promoting a contest to win $1,000.
KIMB carries a mix of Classic Hits from the `70s through the `90s. Mornings are hosted by Jay Allen, with Kimball resident Jason Lockwood covering afternoons.
The new station broadcasts with 26kW/40m (class C3), covering the southwestern corner of the panhandle.
Flood Communications West, a partnership of Andrew Ruback and Michael Flood, also owns two stations in Sidney. They include Country-formatted “Big Boy 98.7” (KSID-FM), which delivers a strong signal to Kimball.
The stations are operated as part of Flood’s News Channel Nebraska group of radio and low-power TV stations.
Flood Communications West bought KIMB’s license from Victor A. Michael’s Michael Radio Company. Michael won the permit in an FCC auction and began test broadcasting last summer.
Kimball has not had a radio voice since the former KIMB/1260 left the air in 2014. Its license was deleted a year later.
Besides KIMB and KSID-FM, Kimball residents receive some fringe signals from Scottsbluff as well as Wyoming and Colorado.
