Civic Media has launched an `80s and `90s-based Classic Hits format on WCFW/105.7 (Chippewa Falls-Eau Claire) with “105 days of summer fun.”
The `80s and `90s-based Classic Hits format known as “105-7 CFW” uses an `80s-replica jingle package and reviving the heritage callsign that the station had used up until eight months ago.
The new playlist, which also includes a few songs from the `70s to the first decade of the 2000s, is positioned as “The Valley’s Fun Music” and is launching The station is also referencing the iconic “FM means fine music” jingle long heard on WCFW, saying it now also means “fun music.”
WCFW’s new format primarily competes with Clear Water Brands’ “Greatest Hits 98.1” (WISM Altoona-Eau Claire), which runs a slightly older playlist.
A news release says the new WCFW will also include news and community information, and will use studio and office space at 220 1/2 N Bridge Street in Chippewa Falls. The launch comes simultaneous with new Talk formats in Eau Claire, La Crosse, and Racine.
The launch follows Civic’s purchase of WCFW from Magnum Media.
Civic, which began buying stations just last summer, now owns 13 AM stations, four full-power FM stations, and 14 FM translators in Wisconsin. The Madison-based company is headed by CEO Sage Weil, who owns 90% of the company. The other 10% is held by Crute, who is also President and COO.
