Pioneer PBS Returns to Air After Equipment Repairs

Posted on July 5, 2023 by Jon Ellis

Western Minnesota’s Pioneer PBS has resumed broadcasting after resolving major equipment issues that took the station off the air for nearly two months.

A Monday, July 3, update on its website and Facebook page says the service, seen on KWCM (Appleton, RF channel 10) and KSMN (Worthington, RF 15), has returned to the air.

Problems began in February when KSMN left the air due to a studio-transmitter link equipment failure, according to an FCC filing. KWCM then left the air on May 9 after a construction crew damaged a fiber line at the KWCM tower site.

The station’s update says it is using new equipment that will require more tweaking that could impact its six channels. Some viewers replied to the Facebook announcement saying they could not yet receive the station.

KWCM/KSMN’s channels include PBS, Create, the Minnesota Channel, World Channel, PBS Kids, and FNX. The primary PBS channel is carried on satellite providers across the sprawling Minneapolis and Sioux Falls markets.
