Weekly Log: Departures in Minneapolis, Des Moines; New Reporter in Northern Wis.

People

Meteorologist Riley O’Connor announced his departure from the morning show at CBS O&O WCCO-TV/4 (Minneapolis) for a career change, but will continue to appear on the station from time to time.

Reporter Taj Simmons announced his departure from Nexstar NBC affiliate WHO-DT/13 (Des Moines) for a new job in Indianapolis.

WXPR/91.7 (Rhinelander) has hired Hannah Davis as a reporter.

The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association notes the passing of radio veteran Tom Teuber, who worked at several Wisconsin stations in his career and retired from his role of program director at WVMO-LP/98.7 (Monona) in 2018.

The Star Tribune published a remembrance of longtime KVSC/88.1 (St. Cloud) station manager Jo McMullen-Boyer, who recently died of cancer.


Stations

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Saga’s “Pure Oldies 106.9” (WRXS Brookfield-Milwaukee) went all-Christmas for the day on July 25 as part of a “Christmas in July” promotion.

DX-midAMerica notes that Nexstar My Network TV station WJMN/3.1 (Escanaba-Marquette) has resumed weekend newscasts, adding hourlong broadcasts at 6 and 10 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Iowa Public Radio’s broadcast outages and alerts page notes that KNSY/89.7 (Dubuque) is operating at reduced power during the day due to problems with the air conditioning at the transmitter site.

Nebraska Public Media’s outages page says KUON/12.1 (Lincoln) and KPNE/9.1 (North Platte) are operating at reduced power.


Regulatory issues

The Senate Commerce Committee passed the AM for Every Vehicle Act, which would require car manufacturers to continue offering AM radios in new vehicles at no additional charge. Upper Midwest co-sponsors include Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Sen. Tina Smith (D-Minn.), Sen. Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), and Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.)
