Weekly Log: TV Moves in Milwaukee, QCA; More TV for Duluth

Posted on November 10, 2023 by Jon Ellis

Anchor Carole Meekins has announced plans to retire from Scripps NBC affiliate WTMJ-TV/4.1 (Milwaukee). Meekins has been in TV for 40 years and at WTMJ-TV for the last 32.

Hearst ABC affiliate WISN-TV/12.1 (Milwaukee) promoted Diana Gutiérrez to co-anchor of the 10 p.m. newscast starting Nov. 20. She had previously co-anchored mornings.

Gray NBC affiliate KWQC/6.1 (Davenport) promoted Morgan Ottier to co-anchor of the 6 p.m. newscast, effective immediately. Ottier also co-anchors the station’s 11 a.m. newscast and replaces longtime anchor Paula Sands, who will continue to host her 3 p.m. talk show until her previously-announced retirement at the end of the year.

Corey Spencer announced that he is joining Tegna ABC affiliate WQAD/8.1 (Moline-Quad Cities) as news director. Spencer, who grew up in the market, is moving from assistant news director role at sister Tegna station KARE/11.1 (Minneapolis).

Stations

Tri-State Christian Television’s KCWV (Duluth) has added ShopLC on channel 27.3 and StartTV on 27.5, replacing Grit and Twist. Grit moved to another Duluth affiliate while Twist is no longer seen in the market.

The Star Tribune reports that Twin Cities PBS is working on a documentary about well-known Twin Cities TV anchors of the 1970s and `80s.

KOTA-TV reports that KILI/90.1 (Porcupine) is poised to move into a new studio facility in 2026.

Six stations joined the All-Christmas list on Friday, Nov. 3, with more stations likely to join after this post goes public on the morning of Nov. 10. One of those is “99.9 Lite FM” (KCML St. Joseph-St. Cloud), which has been promoting a 7:45 a.m. flip. Elsewhere, Winnipeg’s “KiSS 102.3” (CKY-FM) is promoting a flip on Sunday, Nov. 12.
