Weekly Log: Civic Media Sets New Lineup; Valsvik Signs Off KARE 11

Posted on March 1, 2024February 29, 2024 by Jon Ellis

Civic Media announced a new daytime lineup for its 12 News/Talk stations around Wisconsin: Jane Matenaer will be on from 10 to 12, followed by Todd Allbaugh from 12 to 2 and Margaret Daun from 2 to 4. (Daun’s show ends an hour earlier in two markets.) All of the stations air Devil’s Advocates Radio from 4 to 6; seven also air Pat Kreitlow from 6 to 8 a.m. and nine air Earl Ingram from 8 to 10.

Twin Cities broadcast personality Lee Valsvik has ended her long run as live event reporter on “KARE 11 Saturday.” Valsvik continues to host the 9 to noon weekday shift on “Kool 108” (KQQL/107.9). She tells the Star Tribune she looks forward to going to her cabin with everyone else on Friday rather than waiting until Saturday.

Twin Cities radio veteran David Anton has died at the age of 60. His resume includes “REV 105,” “The Cafe 105.7,” “Cities 97,” and WCCO. Services are scheduled for Sunday, March 3, in Inver Grove Heights.

PBS Wisconsin and Wisconsin Public Radio report that public media pioneer Ron Bornstein has died at the age of 91. Bornstein worked with numerous state and national public broadcasting organizations, including WHA radio and TV in Madison, and was known for leading NPR out of financial trouble in the 1980s.

Scripps announced that Kate O’Brian will oversee news operations across all of the company’s local stations, Scripps News, and Court TV. The company also announced the creation of a new head of local news to oversee Scripps’ local news content strategy. Scripps’ stations include NBC affiliates WTMJ-TV/4.1 (Milwaukee) and WGBA/26.1 (Green Bay) and CBS affiliate KMTV-TV/3.1 (Omaha).

KAXE/91.7 (Grand Rapids) reports that Chris Walker, who is the station’s development director, appeared on “Wheel of Fortune” with his wife Ashley Walker. The couple won $65,900.
