Randy Shaver, longtime anchor at Tegna NBC affiliate KARE 11 (Minneapolis), has announced plans to retire from TV on June 28. Shaver has been at the station for more than four decades, first in sports and then as news anchor since 2012.
Tom Overlie announced plans to depart Gray NBC affiliate KTTC/10 (Rochester) on March 28 after more than two decades with the station. KTTC also announced that Brock Bergey, who joined the station last year and has been anchoring the 5 p.m. newscast, will take Overlie’s place alongside co-anchor Caitlin Alexander at 6 and 10.
Paul Brown has been promoted to news director at Gray NBC/CBS station KBJR/6 (Superior-Duluth). Brown has previously been a news director in Texas and joined KBJR as morning co-anchor in 2022. He continues to co-anchor the noon news.
Gray NBC/FOX affiliate WLUC/6 (Marquette) has promoted Tia Trudgeon from reporter to morning co-anchor.
In an unusual situation, the Star Tribune reports that Brian Oake will continue to make Wednesday morning guest appearances on iHeartMedia’s “The Fan” (KFXN-FM/100.3) despite being fired from sister iHeart station “Cities 97.1” (KTCZ).
Jeff Carmack has joined “The North 103.3” (WDSE-FM Duluth) as afternoon host. He replaces Shane German, who left the station last fall for a new job in Colorado.
South Dakota Public Broadcasting has updated its logo, reducing the use of its long-running phoenix logo in favor of SDPB in white text on a black background (though the bird still makes brief appearances, as seen below). The network explains that specific color schemes will be used for imaging.
The University of Northwestern-St. Paul is expanding again with the donation of a dozen signals in New York state from Sound of Life Radio. The signals include nine full-power FM stations and three FM translators. An application to transfer the authorizations was filed with the FCC on March 5.
Gray TV announced that it has reached retransmission consent renewals with providers reaching 70% of its total subscriber footprint without any consumer disruptions. The company said it expects to reach new deals with the remainder of operators primarily in the second half of this year.
