Jeff Johnson announced plans to retire from KYMN/1080 (Northfield) this fall and sell the station to Rich Larson, the station’s current news director.
The deal was first announced by the station in April and was filed for FCC approval on May 16.
The asset purchase agreement says R.R. Larson & Associates LLC will pay Johnson’s Northfield Media $235,000 for KYMN and its FM translator, K236CO/95.1. Steve Moravec of Phoenix Media Group served as a broker for the sale.
The original FCC filing mentioned that the buyer will take over the station through a local marketing agreement prior to the sale closing, but the application to transfer the license was later updated to reflect that there will be no LMA.
R.R. Larson & Associates is owned by Rich Larson and Anne Larson. The station’s April announcement said the buyer intends to continue Northfield-centric programming on KYMN.
Johnson, the seller, has worked for the station for 37 years and purchased it in 2008. He currently hosts mornings.
Northfield, the home of Carleton College and St. Olaf College, is just south of the Twin Cities and KYMN is under the umbrella of metro-area signals.
KYMN transmits with 1kW day and 11 Watts night, non-directional. The FM translator uses 250 Watts.
Besides local information and sports, KYMN’s programming includes an eclectic music mix and Minnesota Twins baseball.
