Longtime Duluth news director Steve Goodspeed is retiring from FOX 21 (KQDS-TV) at the end of June. Goodspeed began his career as a reporter at Duluth’s WDIO and worked in Green Bay and Minneapolis before returning to WDIO as news director in the early 1990s, a role he held until 2019. His time at WDIO culminated with the presentation of a national SPJ Sigma Delta Chi Award for coverage of the 2018 Husky Refinery fire. He returned to daily news as FOX 21’s news director in 2022. Goodspeed, who is this reporter’s former boss and continued mentor, has trained in hundreds of journalists who have gone on to careers around the country.
The Linder Farm Network announced the hiring of meteorologist Cory Harguth, who will provide live storm coverage and customized live weather in addition to reporting. LFN Farm Director Lynn Ketelsen said, “We have surveyed our farm audience in Minnesota and found the two most important issues for farmers are weather and local/regional information. They want farm reporters with emphasis on Minnesota information and weather, and that is what we do.” Harguth most recently worked at Saga’s KICD AM-FM (Spencer, IA).
Jacob Lenzendorf announced that he has accepted a position as sports director at Morgan Murphy Media CBS affiliate WKBT/8 (La Crosse). TVNewsCheck also reported that meteorologist Art Jarrett is joining WKBT’s morning and noon newscasts.
Tom Wachs announced that he has been promoted to chief meteorologist at FOX O&O WITI/6 (Milwaukee).
Hubbard ABC affiliate WDIO/10 (Duluth) has hired Lea Zmurko as morning meteorologist.
Anchor Bisi Onile-Ere has departed FOX O&O KMSP/9 (Minneapolis), writing on social media that she has decided to move on to new opportunities.
Hubbard Radio’s “MyTalk107.1” (KTMY Coon Rapids-Minneapolis) announced that Brittany Arneson and Kendall Mark will take over the 3 to 6 p.m. timeslot starting July 8. They’ll replace longtime hosts Lori Barghini and Julia Cobbs, who have already announced plans to end their show at the end of June. The Star Tribune reports that Arneson has been a regular fill-in host at “MyTalk” for the past five years, while Mark will be departing FOX 9 (KMSP).
Longtime morning hosts Keith Murphy and Andy Fales announced plans to depart iHeart’s KXNO/1460 (Des Moines) and KXNO-FM/106.3 (Ankeny-Des Moines) at the end of June. The two are also anchors at Nexstar NBC affiliate WHO-DT/13 (Des Moines).
iHeart’s WHO/1040 (Des Moines) announced that Jeff Angelo will move up to the 5 to 9 a.m. slot. He replaces Maxwell Schaeffer and Amy Sweet, whose show ended in March.
Christian Music Broadcasters Station of the Year award winners include Northwestern’s “Life 102.5” (WNWC-FM Madison) and Gabriel Media’s “Spirit 92.9” (KKJM St. Joseph-St. Cloud).
