Weekly Log: New Radio Hosts in Green Bay, Des Moines

Woodward Communications’ WAPL/105.7 (Appleton-Green Bay) announced the addition of Laura Lee to its morning show. Lee will join existing co-host “Cutter” on Sept. 23.

Meanwhile, Woodward’s “95.9 Kiss FM” (WKSZ De Pere-Green Bay) announced that Jayson Slade will join the station to host late mornings and serve as the group’s Creative Services Director. He also starts Sept. 23.

Wes Styles announced that he’s joining Saga’s “Lazer 103.3” (KAZR Pella-Des Moines), where he’s listed as hosting 3-7 p.m.

Civic Media’s “99.7 MAX FM” (W259BC/99.7 and WRPQ/740 Baraboo) announced that Maddy Jones is departing the morning show but will still be heard on the station from time to time.

WIZM/1410 (La Crosse) announced that talk host Mike Hayes has been off the air after a terminal pancreatic cancer diagnosis. Hayes says he plans to return to the studio when he feels better.

HisAir.net and others report that Ben Holsen has been promoted to program director at Northwestern Media’s KTIS-FM/98.5 (Minneapolis). He was already PD of Northwestern’s “Faith Radio” network.

The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association notes that Bob Schaper has been named news director at Scripps NBC affiliate WGBA/26.1 (Green Bay).

Scripps NBC affiliate WTMJ-TV/4.1 (Milwaukee) announced that morning anchor Symone Woolridge will depart the station in November to pursue other opportunities.

Gray’s WSAW/WZAW reports that W31EV-D (Stevens Point) is now relaying WZAW-LD, with channels including 33.1 FOX and 34.10 CW. As noted here in FCC Monitor reports, W31EV-D recently activated a 15kW signal from Wood County reaching Stevens Point, Marshfield, and Wisconsin Rapids.

PBS Wisconsin was the winner for Overall Excellence in Education at the recent National Educational Telecommunications Association Public Media Awards. Other award winners included Iowa PBS and Nebraska Public Media.
