A belated note that Headwaters Media’s KBMO/1290 (Benson) and K278CS/103.5 (Benson) have flipped to “Country Gold.” The stations had previously carried Soft Oldies. An August 30 announcement of the change is dedicated in memory of Justin Klinghagen, the co-owner of the station who died in August.
Following the retirement of Paul Douglas, Audacy’s WCCO/830 (Minneapolis) has hired meteorologist Chris Shaffer to provide forecasts starting Nov. 4. Shaffer also works at CBS O&O WCCO-TV/4.1 and has previous experience at several Twin Cities radio stations.
Major League Baseball announced that it will take over TV production and distribution of Minnesota Twins, Milwaukee Brewers, and Cleveland Guardians games beginning in 2025. MLB already handles TV broadcasts for three other teams after partnerships with regional sports networks ended. MLB will offer direct-to-consumer streaming and also work on deals for the games to appear on cable and satellite systems.
Meanwhile, the Twins also announced a multi-year extension of its deal for radio broadcasts to air on Audacy’s WCCO/830 and KMNB/102.9 (Minneapolis). The length of the deal was not specified in a news release. The Twins will continue to handle production and distribution of the radio broadcasts.
Gabe Glidden announced plans to depart “K92.3” (KKHQ Oelwein-Waterloo) for a new job in a different market.
Townsquare Media announced “a strategic digital advertising partnership” with SummitMedia stations in nine markets, including Omaha.
Dr. Marc Gorelick, CEO of Children’s Minnesota, has been elected to Minnesota Public Radio‘s board of trustees.
The Fairmont Sentinel reports that future station KRYX/91.9 (Fairmont) will carry EWTN’s Spanish-language radio service, Radio Católica Mundial. Fairmont Area Catholic Radio will operate KRYX alongside KYEJ/90.1, which will be upgraded from 175 Watts to 6kW.
Riverfront Broadcasting’s “Q92.3” (KQRQ Rapid City) won a Marconi Award for Small Market Station of the Year. The award was presented Oct. 9 during NAB Show New York.
Steve Lundy and Gina Melton, morning co-hosts at iHeartMedia’s “KAT 103.7FM” (KXKT Atlantic-Omaha), have been named Medium Market Broadcast Personality of the Year in the CMA Awards.
