KQYZ Debuts Classic Hits Format after Grand Forks Move-In

Posted on December 25, 2024December 26, 2024 by Jon Ellis

A radio station that upgraded its signal to cover Grand Forks in October has debuted a Classic Hits format, competing with a long-running station in the market.

Valley Broadcasting’s KQYZ/98.5 (Emerado) launched its new identity as “98 1/2 – Q98” at noon on Christmas Day. It had been running Christmas music since completing an upgrade to 9kW/102m (class C3) in late October.

A listener provided audio of the format launch:

The station’s new playlist features Pop hits from the late 1970s to early 2000s. North Dakota State University Bison Football and the Green Bay Packers are also part of the new format.

“Q98” competes with iHeartMedia’s “96.1 The Fox” (KQHT Crookston-Grand Forks), which carries an 80s-based Classic Hits format.

KQYZ first signed on in 2022 using 100 Watts, covering the immediate Emerado area.
