Kinship Radio is continuing is regional expansion with the purchase of two FM stations in central Iowa.
An asset purchase agreement filed with the FCC indicates Kinship’s parent organization, Minn-Iowa Christian Broadcasting, will pay Marshalltown Education Plus $100,000 for KRFH/88.7 (Marshalltown) and KTDV/91.9 (State Center).
The Marshalltown signal will be Minn-Iowa’s farthest-south station. KTDV’s coverage area overlaps slightly with KJWC/90.5 (Hampton), which Minn-Iowa signed on last year.
Mankato-based Kinship Radio has 28 signals, 13 full-power and 15 translators, serving a region stretching from the Twin Cities to Ames. Several recently signed on after being granted as a result of a 2021 filing window for new non-commercial stations.
Two dozen of the signals carry Kinship Radio’s lineup of Christian teaching and preaching programs. Four carry a Spanish-language Christian service.
KTDV currently carries a Contemporary Christian format as “The Dove.” Minn-Iowa has requested a change in KTDV’s callsign to KJOM effective April 9.
Documents note that the sale does not include the current KTDV transmitter, but that the seller will permit the buyer to continue using the transmitter for 60 days after closing until the buyer can install its own transmitter.
Board members of the seller, Marshalltown Education Plus, have an interest in commercial stations KDAO/1190 (Marshalltown) and KDAO-FM/92.9 (Eldora-Marshalltown).
