FCC Monitor: Future Janesville FM Changes Transmitter Site

Posted on July 28, 2025July 26, 2025 by Jon Ellis

The following are updates to previously-reported items and other recent regulatory filings and actions concerning Upper Midwest broadcast stations. This report is created by the author and is not an official report of the FCC.

Iowa

The FCC and Second Generation of Iowa have entered into a consent decree to resolve concerns about an ad for Hot Wheels that ran during the children’s program “Team Hot Wheels” on KFXA/28.1 (Cedar Rapids). The ads aired eleven times during eight airings of the program in 2018. The FCC also granted license renewal for KFXA.

The FCC approved McGee Management Services’ purchase of KGRA/98.9 (Jefferson), KKRF/107.9 (Stuart), KDLS/1310 (Perry), and KDLS translators K232FX/94.3 (Dallas Center) and K259AT/99.7 (Boone) from M&H Broadcasting.

Edge Spectrum has applied to upgrade K22LJ-D (Mason City) to 15kW and K35PA-D (Mason City) to 10kW directional.

Minnesota

The Fond Du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa’s WGZS/89.1 (Cloquet) reports that it returned to full power of 50kW on Feb. 4.

The FCC approved a construction permit for R&J Broadcasting’s WWWI/1270 (Baxter-Brainerd) to increase daytime power to 12kW and reduce nighttime power to 45 Watts, non-directional. WWWI currently uses 5kW day and night, with a directional pattern at night.

The FCC has approved R&J Broadcasting’s purchase of KKWQ/92.5 (Warroad), KRWB/1410 (Roseau), and KRWB translator K275BB/102.9 (Roseau) from Border Broadcasting. R&J has already been operating the stations since last fall.

Wisconsin

The FCC has granted Vanguard Association of Sunbelt Colleges Corporation a modification to future station WBWY/91.9 (Janesville) to move to a site in downtown Janesville. WBWY will use 450 Watts from an antenna 12 meters above the ground, or 4 meters below average terrain, from the site previously used by WADR-LP/103.5 (Janesville). WBWY had originally planned to use the same power from a taller tower west of town. It faces a July 29 construction deadline.
