Civic Media’s WGBW/1590 (Denmark-Green Bay) and W250CV/97.9 (Green Bay) have switched most of their schedule back to Oldies, dropping the company’s News/Talk network.
WGBW/W250CV had carried Civic Media’s Wisconsin-focused lineup since the company bought them in January 2023. WGBW had long run an Oldies format under its previous owner.
The new format is positioned as “local news and timeless hits” with a traditional 1960s and early 1970s Oldies playlist. Civic Media’s customized WGBW newscasts air at the top and bottom of the hour, along with ABC news and Civic’s sports updates at the top of the hour.
“There is a demand for this iconic music, and I’m proud that the company’s commitment to local journalism remains. We believe it will be a popular vehicle for local advertisers as well. I have spent many years personally and professionally in the Green Bay market, and I’m confident that this will be a success,” Civic Media Sr. Vice President Chris Moreau said in a news release.
The lineup includes Dan Markus from 6 to 9 a.m., Laura McKenna from 9 to 2, and Eric Westphal from 2 to 6 p.m.
WGBW’s schedule continues to include Green Bay-originated “Nite Lite with Pete Schwaba,” which has an entertainment focus, from 6 to 8 p.m. The station’s website indicates two weekend shows, NEWisco Weekend and Dr. Kristin Lyerly Show, may also be carried over to the new format. (Both also air on Civic’s WISS Berlin-Oshkosh-Appleton).
Civic’s full News/Talk lineup continues to air on ten stations, including outlets in the Appleton-Oshkosh, Milwaukee, Madison, La Crosse, Eau Claire, and Wausau markets. The schedule includes a mix of Liberal and non-political talk.
Eleven of the company’s Wisconsin stations run music formats.
