A northern Minnesota AM station and FM translator that spent most of 2025 off the air have returned with a seasonal playlist.
De La Hunt Media’s KAKK/1570 and K229DJ/93.7 (Walker), which previously carried FOX Sports Radio, had gone off the air in February, citing financial reasons.
The stations are now carrying Christmas music with long-term plans not yet announced. KAKK had not carried an All-Christmas format in previous years.
KAKK transmits with 9.5kW day and 250 Watts night, non-directional. K229DJ transmits with 250 Watts and may only relay KAKK as a condition of its grant during the AM Revitalization effort.
De La Hunt Media also owns five other stations in north-central Minnesota, including Classic Hits station KQKK/101.9 (Walker) and several Park Rapids stations that reach Walker. De La Hunt News/Talk/AC outlet KPRM/870 (Park Rapids) is relayed on K242AY/96.3 (Walker).
Walker is a popular tourist destination on Leech Lake. It’s also the community of license for Classic Rocker “Z99” (KLLZ/99.1), which is one of several Bemidji-market stations delivering a strong signal to Walker.
